Success Stories

Frank & Nora
Frank and Nora are what TMP is all about. They are hard working people. On their two acres they make bricks, grow coffee, bananas, corn, chickens, and grass for their cow. This couple has received a series of small loans from TMP that have assisted with each of these businesses including a machine to make bricks. All of which has helped them become successful and self-sustaining. They have repaid all their loans and are a perfect example of the vision of the TentMaker Project, to see people advance from poverty, raise their children and contribute to their church and community. They are now laying the foundation for a Christian elementary school for their community. Give thanks to God for Frank and Nora!

Rose
Rose is probably the most successful woman in our program and fulfills the TMP vision very well. Rose owns a household goods store, nine apartment rentals and a three acre farm. She has received several TMP loans to assist in growing these businesses and has repaid them all. She is a blessing to her community and to her local church. She is progressing towards self-sustainment and soon will no longer need the help of TMP. Give thanks to the Lord for Rose!

Our History
The TentMaker Project is a ministry of Grace Presbyterian Church, PCA, of Carbondale, Illinois. In 1999 Grace Church funded a lending effort to needy small business owners in Uganda, East Africa and sent Pastor Wyatt George to work with the leaders of the Presbyterian Church in Uganda. Together they started a lending program for business-adept members of qualifying Presbyterian Churches. This ministry now serves 6 congregations.
The Name
The TentMaker Project name comes from Acts 18:1-3.
“Paul … went to Corinth. There he met a Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had ordered all Jews to leave Rome. Paul went to see them, and because he was a tentmaker as they were, he stayed and worked with them."
The original idea was an enterprise endeavor to support mission work. We call our ministry The TentMaker Project even though we do not make or sell tents. We make small loans to people in the church with tiny business efforts to help them grow to the point of self-support.
